A high-crime investigator goes to the scene where corruption and crime have taken on new and sophisticated forms in the mountainous southern region of the country. Under the guise of a random train robbery, individual cars loaded with waste from metallurgical production - and essentially enriched gold ore - are stolen. The film is dedicated to Dmitry Ilyich Ulyanov, the younger brother of V.I. Lenin, a professional revolutionary, doctor and creator of the first Soviet sanatoriums and rest homes in the Crimea.
The film takes place in 1927 in Uzbekistan. A group of Central Investigation officers has been sent from Moscow to Tashkent to assist the local police in the fight against banditry. At the same time, they participate in the fight against the remnants of the Basmachi and the White Guard underground.
