The story tracks the unhealthy and abusive relationship between an unnamed man and his wife in the days following his return to north eastern Tangshan. He's coming back to her as a wanted fugitive for a series of rapes and murders.

Liu Xiaomei was born in January 1956. She is a native of Tianjin and her family does folk art. When she was in school, she learned to sing Xihe Dagu from her mother, and learned storytelling from her grandfather, laying a solid foundation in art. In 1973, she joined Qingyuan County Literary and Art Propaganda Team. In 1975, she was transferred to Baoding District Art Troupe. She mainly sang Xihe Dagu, and participated in operas, dramas, and operas. Gradually formed her own singing style. In 1978, she was transferred to Baoding Quyi Troupe and later served as the head of the troupe. She is currently the director of Baoding Art Experiment Center.
