Led by Santa Catarina director Petter Baiestorf, the production company came to be called Canibal Filmes. Far from large urban centers and in times of stagnation in Brazilian cinema, the group learned in practice how to make low-budget cinema. The films found their own way of financing and showing to the public. Through reports, photographs, documents and videos, the documentary covers Canibal's early years, retracing the group's efforts and challenges in making independent cinema in a region with no cinematic tradition.
